American students in Germany

On the 2nd of June 2018 the three American Students Landon Bradshaw, Layne Scopano and Hunter Smith arrived at the airport in Frankfurt. Dr. Braun and Mrs. Rieger were there to pick them up and set them off at the Host families Rieger, Cartano and Beyer.

The students will accomplish a research for six weeks at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg.

On Tuesday the 5th of June 2018 the DKFZ gave an opening ceremony for the start of the research. The participants were: Landon Bradshaw , Layne Scopano and Hunter Smith as well as their Host students Doreen Beyer, Larissa Cartano and Sophie_Marie Rieger with their families. Also Dr. Jürgen Braun with his wife and Randy Lacross took part as the project leaders from Germany and the US. Dr. Ulrike Kagerhuber, the principal of the Johanna-Wittum school, and Henning Hurling a teacher of the JWS who was involved in the establishment of this Exchange Research Program. The Mentors Sina Tönges, Dr. Stefan Pusch with Julia Zaman, and Dr. Angel Cid-Arregui joint the ceremony as well. Other participants were Dr. Jörg Hoheisel as the Chair of the Scientific Board at the DKFZ in Heidelberg, Michael Wöhler from the Diabetes Care GmbH at Roche in Mannheim, Franziska Muñoz from the company Roche in Basel, Mira Eberz from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Stuttgart as well as Carrie Lee and Dr. Gerstner from the US General consulate in Frankfurt.

After the opening speeches the participants had lunch together. Afterwards the three American students and their host families had the chance to get a tour threw the different labs of the mentors and the students received a little introduction.
